When in Cairns, I found myself amongst the rain but a few days spent in the rainy season isn't bad. It's fact that when the rain goes, the fruit follows and here the glorious greenery thrived after the repeated showers that poured on our touristy backs.

So when faced with the rain, where do you go? I'm pretty glad we managed to find the these incredibly, beautiful waterfalls it was probably one of my favourite days. I'll always have fond memories of us running down to each one in our swim wear (to apparently look as English as we could! Or not get our clothes wet, I'll let you decide). Have you found the fruit from your season? Emily x

Australia / Alice Springs

Next on the road trip was Alice Springs. As you all know I'm pretty keen on photographing beautiful cafe's. So here's one that I found along the way. 

I was very much captivated by it's colour and light. - My two favourite things to photograph.

A Film Adventure//Coffee//Friends//Olympus Trip

As I was coming to an end of my film supplies and after a little rummaging. I found an old b/w film, which was at least 3 years out of date. 

However, I decided to just go ahead and use it, despite not particularly thinking through what for.

So I put it in my charming, little 35mm Olympus Trip camera, which has become a recent handbag essential, and got a little snap happy. 

As a 100 ISO film, I needed to use the flash quite alot, especially when indoors. But I think I've managed to get some lovely results, of some lovely friends.

Last but not least my beloved housemates, course-mates and I on the opening night of the exhibition.... It was an amazing evening and week. It now feels like ages ago!

'Fragments Of A Captured Past' at Foto8 Gallery

Of course it is only fair for me to begin with an apology, because of my lack of posting in recent weeks. However this could come with a silver lining, resulting in a good number of highly over due posts to come. Depending on which way you look at it...

PART ONE: 

Firstly the most exciting of all news is that I have had my long awaited final show, initially the all important one in the beloved Southampton (where it got marked) and secondly in the famous London (just for fun because that's how we role!) 

As I've shared with you before, I'm sure you are more than aware of my final project: 'Guest House'. So without further ado I will show you some snaps I took on my phone (SORRY) of the installing and curating I was involved with, for our London Show at the fabulous Foto8 Gallery.

Home Time

Some might say I'm not the most organised, so it's inevitable I forget something when I travel to and from Southampton and Bristol, during holidays. Here's some of the essentials I always carry with me.

I don't usually work in this meticulous manner as a photographer, so you have my apologies if it's not quite lined up!

One of the most valuable things I've learnt in my last three years of studying photography is, bear with me as this may seem a little too simple for you wise owls. It's that you have to always carry on shooting. Even if you don't know what your taking photographs of, or if it's not relevant to your 'project'. As a photography student it can be easy to think too much about what your taking photographs of and so sometimes it's good to just get back to the basics. Enjoy being on Easter break and shoot what the heck you want. So I found these flowers and as it's spring; everyone loves a bit of still life?! If anything you'll start thinking creatively again and forget about the fact you can't think of what to take photographs of... 


HOPEFULLY. So I dared to take my Nikon out his bag and took these:

The flowers are typically not at their best but the colours and shapes seemed more alive than ever. Forgive me for the simplicity of this post but if nothing else I've shared some pretty photos and I don't regret doing a photo shoot just for the fun of it!

An everyday occurrence

As a photographer, my personal aim is to find the beautiful within the everyday, to highlight the moments we would normally pass by. So when I realised I'd walked passed this garage every time I'd walked to the train station and back I had to photograph it. 

Taking it just as it is; worn down, with wallpaper decaying and walls graffitied. I still found it beautiful, and to me even more enchanting, than perhaps it used to be.
